Music lover Jacob Edgar takes a trip to our small island nation of The Bahamas in search of bits of our musical history and the next Bahamian superstars. Jacob explores The Bahamas’ transitions thru the ages of folk, funk, disco, soul, rake n’ scrape, goombay, soca & calypso (and yes those last four are very different.) His look at our music and musicians features the history and sounds of some of our old school sensations like André Toussaint (a Haitian singer and guitarist who emigrated to Nassau, Bahamas in 1953 and performed there until his death in 1981) and Blind Blake (not to be confused with the southern america folk artist carrying the same name) as well as some of the new school up and comers like the Baha Men, Julien Believe & the new leader and face of rake n’ scrape Dillon ‘D-Mac’ McKenzie.
Take a trip with Jacob through the part of the Bahamas that many Bahamians don’t know or have simply forgotten. This short look at the music coming from this small country is an in-depth, entertaining and in many ways needed look into ourselves.
