Recap of The Ms. World/Universe Bahamas Competition Launch

On Sunday 20th July, 2014, Nassauvian Socialites gathered together to be the first to view the beauties entered at the Launch of the 2014 Ms. World and Miss Universe Bahamas Competition , held at the beautiful and historic John Waitlings Brewery and Distillery located on scenic West Hill Street. This year, there will be two separate pageants held to determine one Ms. World Bahamas and Ms. Universe Bahamas. Another first; instead of determining Queens from New Providence Island alone, the Competition has expanded to a “district style”,  to include participating islands for a true “Bahamian” Queen. Seven Contestants competing for their chance to be Ms. World Bahamas, and six competing to reign as Ms. Universe Bahamas.  How exciting!

As socialites gathered in the gallery at the Distillery, there were silent murmurs  in between sipping cocktails and spirits, about their favorite girls and who would win.  I stood  listening intently to hear the  names of the favorite contenders with great thrill. The Master of Ceremony for the evening was Media Legend Jerome Sawyer, who for each segment, was joined with one of our reigning Queens.

For the Ms. World Bahamas Segment, Sawyer was joined by the beautiful Ms. World Bahamas 2012 – 2014 De’Andrea Bannister, who assisted in the unvieling and sashing of the Ms. World Bahamas Contestants.  They are as follows;

Miss World Andros – Pylara Russel

Miss World New Providence – Shanae Strachan

Miss World Bimini – Cyphony Lockhart

Miss World Eleuthera – Krishanna Culmer

Miss World Grand Bahama – Rosetta Cartwright

Miss World Ocean Cay – Chantel O’Brian

Miss World Paradise Island – Rontre Rolle

Sawyer asked each girl to introduce themselves to the packed gallery, including giving  a brief summary of their platforms.  The standouts in my opinion were Miss World New Providence – Shanae Strachan,  for her stellar response, Miss World Grand Bahama – Rosetta Cartwright, with her grace and pageant new comer Miss World Paradise Island – Rontre Rolle with her humility.

Next to join Sawyer to unveil and sash the Ms. Universe Bahamas contestants was reigning Queen, the beautiful Ms. Universe Bahamas 2013 – 2014 Lexi Wilson. The contestants are;

Miss Universe Grand Bahama – Tomacina Culmer

Miss Universe Eleuthera – Toni Bethel

Miss Universe Long Island – Ominique Burrows

Miss Universe New Providence – Rokara Hepburn

Miss Universe Ocean Cay – Gabrielle Wong

Miss Universe Paradise Island – Diandra Brown.

The standouts for this segment were Miss Universe Long Island – Ominique Burrows, who captured the attention of those in attendance with her bold decision to rock her hair in a short, natural afro (quite uncommon in pageantry that will be sure to attract naturalistas to her), Miss Universe Eleuthera – Toni Bethel, who’s journey to a healthy lifestyle is simply inspirational and Miss Universe New Providence – Rokara Hepburn, the 6’3″ beauty who stands above the rest.

In short, the Competition Launch was spectacular and the other events promise to be as equally amazing.  The Miss Bahamas Organisation has chosen the theme “Beauty Personified” and certainly the theme is most fitting, as these 13 beauties are amongst the best group of girls competing in the Pageant’s history. Also, be sure to tag all photos of events and contestants with hashtag #beautypersonified on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for an opportunity to win tickets for the events.

The next event is the Top Model Competition on Friday 26th July, 2014 at the British Colonial Hilton Hotel at 8:00pm sharp.  See you there.

Peace and Love,
